Discarded Theater Curtain Leg, House Paint
In Theatre, it's unlucky for anyone to whistle backstage. This piece was inspired by that superstition and is a quote from Lauren Bacall in “To Have and Have Not”, instructing Humfrey Bogart on how to whistle.
This piece was part of a large collection shown in New York City as part of a solo exhibit called Broken Legs, (theatrical curtains known as "legs" that have been taken apart and repurposed into works of art). This "leg" was painted on then torn and sewn back together.
*Piece shows general wear and tear of the discarded theatrical curtain before it was repurposed, reflecting age and character.
